Cheryl Newbern is a mixed media artist who was born on the coast of Georgia and now lives in Davis, CA. When growing up on the Georgia coast, Cheryl was nurtured by swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and spending time in and around the marshes. These experiences resonate in her art via water and organic shapes of nature. Cheryl’s long career as an OB nurse and massage therapist influence her art in her use of rounded shapes of the female form. Cheryl enjoys creating richly layered textural surfaces created with bits of paper collected from her past and possibly from a morning walk on the green belt. Cheryl’s process starts with exploration and curiosity and always responding to what evolves from her work. Cheryl received her BFA from the University of Florida at Gainesville and graduated from Merritt College of Nursing. Her work has been juried in shows and is in collections on the East and West Coasts.
